Telecommunications standardization is given high priority in Europe as well as globally. The aim is to arrive at compatible standards for user equipment and network solutions. This applies to radio and fixed networks as well as mobile and satellite services. The Norwegian Post and Telecommunications Authority (NPT) has staff members within the various areas who may provide information on the standardisation efforts in general or reply to specific queries in greater detail.
The NPT is responsible for post- and telecommunication standardization in Norway. The major tasks are the co-ordination of international and European work in this area.
Work on European telecommunications standards is co-ordinated by the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) of which the NPT is a member with additional status as an NSO (National Standards Organization). Important tasks in this respect are the administrative follow-up of public enquiries and votes.
Work on European postal standards is coordinated by CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation).
Companies and others not being in a position to participate directly, may exert influence by submitting comments.
Please get in touch with firmapost@npt.no for more information on telecommunications standardization.
